I just heard from Walter Bustos (former park director in Galapagos) that an eruption on the outer northern slopes of Fernandina island's "La Cumbre" volcano happened this morning. Fernandina is a shield volcano formed by the Galapagos hotspot. Eruption of Fernandina volcano occurred on 16 June 2018. The quakes continued, growing more frequent, until on the afternoon of September 4th, the volcano erupted. Collapse occurred incrementally and asymmetrically, ranging up to about 350 m at the SE end of the caldera, which contains the caldera lake.
